I’m constantly trying to uplift my friends, the people around me, and myself. Attempting to boost confidence and promote body positivity. Whether it’s complimenting a friend’s outfit or owning my own body by wearing a crop top. This post is all about body positivity, owning your body, uplifting others, some motivational quotes, and so much more.
While it is summer, and I can wear whatever I choose because I’m not in school, during the school year I had a dress code. In Virginia, you get lucky if it’s in the 80s in June, so I came to school with shorts and a normal school collared shirt. My shorts were not the fingertip length that the dress code requires. I thought I would push my luck seeing as it was scorching hot outside and almost the end of the year. That’s when an administrator came up to me and pointed out my shorts. My response was a simple, ” I’m just owning my body in a confident way”. She said she loved that response, and let me go. That’s the sense of community and solidarity that I wish was everywhere. Not just between women, but between everyone regardless of age, race, identification, etc.
what does body positivity and owning my body mean to me? Well first off, it’s not putting other people down because of their body type. It’s uplifting each other, creating safe environments, spreading positivity surrounding body image. And owning your body is having the realization that your body is your body. If it’s making someone else uncomfortable, that’s too bad because it’s your body. YOUR BODY.
It’s appreciating yourself and knowing that you and your body are perfect. Society can’t dictate anything.
short shorts and sweatpants. crop tops and chunky sweaters. swimsuits and bomber jackets. who cares, it’s all about what YOU want, what makes YOU comfortable, what YOU feel good in. At the same time, it’s okay if you don’t feel comfortable in certain clothes and it’s okay to have insecurities about things. The whole point is that YOU have the freedom to make those things up for yourself.
I hope you enjoyed this post! I’m also like to apologize, I’m just getting back into the groove of blogging. That being said, some things have gone wrong like posts being posted too early, then being deleted, then going up again. I think everything is under control now but that’s a little explanation for any confusion.
HAVE A FABULOUS DAY!
